Newly released messages and excerpts from the private collection of the late Alan Rickman's letters and notes shed light on the frustrations he experienced while playing the role of Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series.
One letter, written by film producer David Heyman and now up for auction, expresses gratitude to Rickman for his contribution to the success of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" despite the challenges he faced on set. The letter also acknowledges Rickman's intelligence and talent. Another personal note in the collection, titled "Inside Snape's Head," reveals Rickman's thoughts on his performance as Snape in Harry Potter 6, including his discomfort with director David Yates.
Additionally, J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter stories, penned a letter to Rickman expressing her gratitude for his faithful portrayal of the complex character she created. She praised his performance as "absolutely perfect."
