On Monday, it was announced on the Tokyo College website, which is part of the University of Tokyo, that Jack Ma, the Chinese billionaire and co-founder of Alibaba, has become a college advisor. He will be working with researchers and university officials in the area of sustainable agriculture and food production. This comes after Ma "waived" control of the Ant Group in January as part of a change in the shareholding structure. He and his family are reportedly living in Tokyo with a personal security officer and he is staying at the home of SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, who is a friend and investor in Alibaba.


Despite facing intense scrutiny from the Chinese government and being fined nearly $2.8 billion for allegedly monopolizing the market, Ma continues to do business in many countries and has a net worth of around $33 billion. He has fallen to No. 6 on China's list of billionaires from being the No. 1 billionaire in China with assets of $66.6 billion.
