Turner has suffered a number of health problems in recent years, including cancer, stroke and kidney failure. Roger Davies, Turner's manager for 30 years, said in a statement, "Tina is a force of nature that is unique and astonishing with her strength, incredible energy and profusion of talent."


“From the first day I met her in 1980, she believed in herself with all her heart, when nobody believed then… I will miss her deeply,” he added.


American singer Gloria Gaynor, who rose to prominence in the 1960s, said Turner "paved the way for many women in rock music, black and white."


There were also praises from supermodel Naomi Campbell, basketball legend Magic Johnson and singers Kelly Rowland, Ciara and Debbie Harry from Blondie.


On Instagram, The Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger said that Turner was "inspirational, warm, funny and open-minded" and helped him when he was young.

Tina Turner was born in Tennessee into a family of joint planters. She became famous as one of the backing singers for her husband's band The Kings of Rhythm. She soon led the band, and the duo enjoyed commercial success with Fool in Love and It's Gonna Work Out Fine, which topped the US charts in the early '60s. Their other hits include 1973's Nutbush City Limits, about the small town where Tina was born.

Tina's life story was made into the 1993 biopic What's Love Got To Do With It, which earned Angela Bassett an Oscar nomination for her starring performance; and drama. The hit song was titled Tina: The Musical. She was also the subject of the 2021 HBO documentary Tina.


In a 2018 interview with Marie Claire South Africa, Turner said, "People think my life has been tough, but I think it's been a wonderful journey. The older you get, the more you realize that's not what happened. It depends on how you deal with it.
